Highlights of recent developments on the MiniSShot Project
-------------------------------------------------------------
- This weekend, Rick Maschek flew a rocket at Lucerne Valley to test
the recovery system concept that is planned for the MiniSShot. The
flight was a partial success, separation occurred at apogee, and the
booster section and payload section descended separately, as planned.
The main did not deploy - due to oversight and distractions, the
altimeter was not armed prior to flight. In the future, Rick plans to
employ a pre-flight checklist to ensure proper prepping.

- Richard has shipped the 12 ablative casting tubes to Rick Maschek.
-Andre Alexandre has shipped the completed DTMF system and vibration
sensor to Richard for integration into the payload capsule.
- Richard has completed refurbishment of the Nozzle, including the
protective ablative layer that forms the inlet, and has added the
reinforcing plies of fibreglass around the end portions of each of the
two motor casing tubes:

-Richard has performed a battery power supply test of the recovery
beacon transmitter and amplifier unit. The batteries tested were
(non-aqueous) lithium CR2 primary cells, which have the highest specific
energy of the battery types surveyed by Craig Strudwicke. The results of
the test were promising with regard to providing appreciable radio
transmission lifespan.

- WP17 (Flight testing of the Main Computer) has been postponed until
Dec.26th.
Highlights of other Sugar Shot developments
--------------------------------------------
- A telecon was held this week to continue planning to form a Non-Profit
Organization (NPO). Participants were Sam Grado, Richard Nakka and
Robert Krech. In other related developments, SS2S supporter Dan Pollino
has accepted an invitation to be a member of the Board of Directors.
Dan's commitment in supporting this venture is much appreciated.
The Weekly Activity Report will be taking a one week holiday break and
will next be published on January 4th, 2010.
