Highlights of recent developments on the MiniSShot Project
-------------------------------------------------------------
- The next firing of the Blast Tube Motor (BTM) has been moved forward
to next weekend. The plan is to test the linen phenolic tubing that was
slated to be tested during the first BTM firing in January (which was
not, due to time limitations). The third BTM firing is still planned to
occur on April 11th, when a new ablative material (currently under
development) will be tested..
- Richard has continued to make good progress with testing of various
improved ablative insulation materials. To date, 23 different variations
of the baseline ablative material have been tested.
- Rick Maschek reports that he has received the finocyl mandrels sent to
him by Ed Romani ( http://www.rocketsaway.com/trucore/ ), and has begun
experimentation with them.
- Grant Saviers reports that he has sent the Nozzle Ring, Midbulkhead
and Forward Bulkhead to Richard. Once received, the insulation material
will be applied to these components in preparation for the next
MiniSShot firing.
- Andrew Nowakowski reports that he has begun preliminary work on
producing fins for the MiniSShot flight vehicle. A fibreglass prototype
will be fabricated first, prior to producing the actual carbon-fibre fins.
