Weekly Activity Report - January 2-8, 2012

Highlights of recent developments on the DoubleSShot project
---------------------------------------------------------------
- Richard has shipped the DSS BPS refurbished nozzle, midbulkhead, new
forward bulkhead and midbulkhead removal tool to Paul Avery. As well,
Richard has shipped the star mandrel to Rick Maschek. The mandrel was
modified in two ways in order to facilitate removal from the grain
following casting. Following Rick’s suggestion, the mandrel was threaded
at the top end and fitted with a bushing, in order to allow the mandrel
to be pulled out. The slight stretching that would occur during pulling
should ease removal. Also, the mandrel was given a slight taper.

- Alberto Gassol has uploaded Chris King’s “Battery Characterization
Under Vacuum - Test Plan” document to the Documentation page:
http://sugarshot.org/documentation_old.html

- Craig Peterson has summarized the results of the AAA Lithium battery
testing under vacuum in report form. Alberto has uploaded this report.
Similar reports are currently being prepared by Craig for the other
battery types.

- A regular Avionics telecon was held this past Sunday to discuss
current work in progress. Participants were Chris King, Hans Olaf Toft
and Mattias Lampe. Among topics discussed were the suggestion to test
the actual UFC-4 battery type under vacuum conditions. Mattias mentioned
in the telecon that he will soon be sending the prototype antennas to
Richard (who will forward them to Chris). Chris mentioned that he is
making progress with the schematic for one of the avionics PCBs. The
next telecon will be January 22nd.

- Mattias confirmed that he has sent the prototype antennas to Richard.

- Rick reported that he has weighed and mixed enough propellant, to
date, for three of the DSS BPS motor grains.

- Ben Brockert reported that he has updated the DSS BPS CAD model based
on "as manufactured" changes to the ablative coating. Ben also mentioned
that SolidWorks has some neat CFD capability and that he has made some
plots which he will forward to Richard soon.
